Protests erupt outside Kasba Police station as 3 arrested in alleged Kolkata college gang rape
External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar informed a parliamentary consultative committee that Pakistan was notified within 30 minutes of the launch of Operation Sindoor on May 7. The operation targeted nine terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK). Jaishankar assured MPs that India communicated clearly to Pakistan that only terror hideouts were being struck.
According to sources, a ceasefire followed direct communication initiated by Pakistan through the Directors General of Military Operations (DGMOs). The External Affairs Minister emphasized that India's response was precise and calculated to prevent escalation.
Jaishankar also revealed that both the US and Pakistan were warned in advance that any escalation would be met with an equal and firm response. When the US Secretary of State conveyed intelligence about a possible retaliation from Pakistan, India made its position clear with a firm message: “If Pakistan escalates, we are ready to respond in kind.”
The consultative committee meeting was attended by several MPs including KC Venugopal, Manish Tiwari, Mukul Wasnik, Priyanka Chaturvedi, Aprajita Sarangi, and Gurjit Aujla.
